VETERANS PARK Conceptual Plan
The Veterans Park concept involves significant stormwater infrastructure upgrades to transform the park into a multipurpose space that can meet many of the growing community’s needs throughout the year. Key improvements include organizational and programmatic hierarchy, stormwater infrastructure, connections to other outdoor recreational amenities, and a universal paddlecraft launch area. Additional features include woodland and boardwalk trails, a proposed playground and dog park, pickleball courts, and outdoor exercise area. The design enhances safety, connectivity, wildlife habitat, and stormwater treatment while celebrating Spring City’s unique geographic location and improving access to the city’s water trail network for non-motorized users.
Project Goals
Based on the feedback received from Spring City’s Local Leadership Team as well as the community-wide survey, the RiverLine Planning & Design team has identified 3 primary project goals that the concept design for Veterans Park seeks to accomplish:
ESTABLISH - an organizational hierarchy within the site that improves vehicular, pedestrian, and programmatic usability. Hierarchy was also prescribed for the site’s water resources, with a preference given to moving water away from user groups and cleaning it before it reenters the water table.
EMBRACE - the local context for formal and material cues to create a “sense of place” that is unique to Veterans Park.
ENHANCE - the ecology, hydrology, and amenities of the site to accommodate a variety of users and programs throughout the year.
