Jackson County, Alabama
Countywide outdoor recreation framework plan
The proposed plan was developed as a resource for Jackson County that aims to highlight the county’s key assets and visualize how they are interconnected at the county-wide scale. Elements that are highlighted include river access points, recreation assets, trails, parks and wildlife areas, hubs of activity, and priority project sites. Each of these elements has distinct characteristics and functions, but together they create one network of opportunity for outdoor recreation in Jackson County. The Framework Plan acts as a visual tool that can be referenced when planning the County’s outdoor recreation vision. The proposed plan includes the design of four priority sites, chosen for their existing amenities and uses and their location along the Tennessee River.
Project Goals
Based on the feedback received from Jackson County’s Local Leadership Team as well as the community-wide survey, the Tennessee RiverLine Planning & Design team has identified 3 primary project goals that the County-wide Framework Plan seeks to accomplish:
To connect Jackson County’s many outdoor recreation assets and increase waterfront trail opportunities with a system of infrastructure improvements.
To provide updated, functional amenities at key existing parks to improve user experience and attract new users to Jackson County’s recreation destinations.
To provide safe and accessible river access for all ages
